Why this color matters

Memory stores Twitch Purple as grape. Years of seeing the platform against charcoal interfaces — plus the legacy purple that preceded the 2019 refresh — tug many players away from the target. The current core colour is #9146FF: a vivid violet built to stay unmistakably Twitch even when the creators on screen supply every other colour.

The purple got a brightness buff

On 26 September 2019, Twitch unveiled an identity update it called evolutionary rather than a reset. The blocky wordmark kept the DNA of its predecessor, Glitch was refined rather than replaced, and the signature purple became explicitly brighter and more vibrant. Twitch joked that Glitch was already tattooed on people, so recognisability was not negotiable; the colour received the bigger perceptual upgrade.

Purple is eternal. Purple is forever.

Twitch, 2019 brand refresh

Glitch says Twitch without spelling it

Twitch launched on 6 June 2011 as the gaming-focused spin-off of Justin.tv, but its compact mascot eventually became a faster identifier than the name itself. The current logo guide calls Glitch “the quickest way of saying ‘Twitch’ without spelling it out” and treats it as an ownable personification of the community. That is why this card targets the purple surrounding the little speech-bubble face, not a random streamer accent.

One purple became fifteen steps

The 2019 product refresh, named Ultraviolet, did more than swap one hex. Twitch rebuilt ramps of 15 purples and 15 greys with the updated brand purple as the starting point, following a planned lightness curve while holding a consistent visual hue. Those values became JSON design tokens transformed into CSS custom properties, allowing light and dark themes to share one system. A single swatch became the mathematical anchor for an entire interface.

Read the channels, not the category

The scoring target is #9146FF — RGB 145/70/255 and HSB(264°, 73%, 100%). Full brightness does not make it pastel: 73% saturation keeps it forceful. A maxed blue channel, substantial red and much lower green make it a blue-led violet, not magenta. Historical memory is the trap: the old browser tab tugs one way, Discord familiarity another. Look for an electric violet that feels lit from inside.
